Tour de Lincoln

In May 2002, the LVC held its first annual Tour de Lincoln (click here for pictures). The Tour is a benefit bike ride for the Volunteer Center. The Tour offers a wonderful Spring day of riding the scenic back roads of Lincoln. Entrants pay a small fee to enter the ride, and are encouraged to identify sponsors to help raise funds to benefit the Volunteer Center. Prizes are awarded to riders who raise different levels of sponsorship funding.

At the eighth annual event to be held on May 9th, 2009, the Tour offers four courses: The Pleasure Cruise (10 miles), The Rolling Hills (20 miles), The Country Climb (40 miles) and the Metric Century (63 miles).

The Pleasure Cruise will roll out of McBean Park and pass through the cottonwood trees that line the banks of the Auburn Ravine. The course consists almost completely of Class 2 bike lanes, and rolls along a section of the beautiful Lincoln Hills Golf Course.

The Rolling Hills is a shorter version of the Country Climb with beautiful scenery and less vertical gain.

The Country Climb is a beautiful ride winding through the rolling hills and countryside between Lincoln and Auburn. This route has beautiful valley views, challenging climbs (1400' vertical gain), and passes by several horse ranches. The Metric Century route is more of the same beautiful countryside, but with 3500' of vertical gain.

Well stocked rest stops and sag support are located on all routes. Helmets are required for all riders!

Check-In Times: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. After check-in, riders may leave on their own after 8 a.m.

Barbecue lunch served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Non-Rider activities include McBean Skate Park, McBean Park playground, Feats of Clay (tour historic Gladding, McBean factory), and three beautiful public golf courses within 2 miles.

Secret Santa for Seniors

Secret Santa for Seniors is an annual event that helps provide gifts and clothing to seniors in need in the Lincoln community during the holiday season. With the generous support of local residents, especially from Lincoln Hills, donated items are collected at various locations around town in the months of November and December. They are gathered and stored until the day of the event held around mid-December.

Farmer's Market

Every Thursday evening during the summer the streets of downtown Lincoln are filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, crafts, specialty items, music and a wonderful sense of community. The 2009 Farmer's Market will begin June 11th and run through August 27th. Whether or not you would like to volunteer to help us set up for this event each Thursday, be sure to come enjoy the Lincoln Farmer's Market. You'll be glad you did!

Make a Difference Day

Make a Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate! This annual event takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. In 2009, the event will be held Saturday, October 24th.

For the eleventh year in a row, the Lincoln Volunteer Center will coordinate local volunteers to participate in a variety of local community projects for Make a Difference Day in 2009.

In past years, projects have included painting fire hydrants and curbs, local school site beautification, planting, pruning and weeding in public areas, general clean up tasks, and lots of other fun projects.

In 2008, we had 180 volunteers show up for Make a Difference Day. Please consider participating in Make A Difference Day in October 2009!
