The Western Placer Unified School District provides educational services to Lincoln residents. WPUSD is projected to grow from its current student enrollment of 2,800 to a population of over 9,000 in the next ten years. In addition to public school enrollment, the school district services an additional 2,800 students in the Horizons Instructional Systems program, a charter school providing instructional support to home-schooled families and students.
Four of the district’s six schools are charter schools which provide flexibility in regard to California Educational Codes. The middle school and the continuation school are not in possession of charter status.
In addition to the three elementary schools, one middle, one high and one continuation school plus a robust adult school program, the district owns and operates a 280 acre ranch property. The ranch is located 12 miles from the high school. In addition to crop production such as rice, oats, and hay, the farm maintains a Ranch Management class and occasional Construction Technology projects. This year two new classrooms and a fully equipped science laboratory have been installed to support an Agricultural Biology class on site. Plans for the future call for the addition of an Animal Biology class, a Natural History class, and an expansion of the Construction Technology program. The acreage has access to ample irrigation water and has unlimited potential for agricultural and environmental studies.
