The City has undertaken this new program in order to help meet State mandated requirements to reduce disposal of solid waste in permitted landfills by 50% percent.
All green waste collection takes place on the same day a resident’s garbage is picked up, but green waste pick-up will only occur every other week. See the Green Waste Schedule below for weeks green waste pick-up will occur.
90-gallon green waste totes are delivered to residents, but residents can request a smaller 64-gallon tote instead of the larger tote if their yard green waste is minimal. (Note: Once the toter has been delivered, any subsequent requests for exchange will incur a $53 fee.)
Items which can be placed in the green waste for recycling include grass clippings, flowers, plants, leaves, and prunings and branches 2” or less in diameter and 3’ or less in length.
Items that should not be placed in the green waste can include dirt, sod, rocks, concrete or other household garbage.
Go here to learn more about what items are acceptable and not acceptable.
If residents forget to put their green waste can out on their scheduled pick-up day, call the Lincoln Public Services Department for a special pick-up; however, please note there will be a $15 charge for a special pick up. Please go here to learn more about special pick up requests.
